Overview

The third annual ACM FAccT Conference 2022 invites applicants for the FAccT Doctoral Consortium (DC). The ACM FAccT 2022 Doctoral Consortium is open to PhD students (or others pursuing a relevant advanced degree, as well as recent grads of professional schools) doing research on fairness, accountability and transparency (or related topics) in relation to socio-technical systems. We are looking for students in computer science, philosophy, sociology, law, psychology, or any of the broad range of subjects contributing to this area. The Doctoral Consortium is a unique opportunity to engage in substantive interaction with experienced researchers and peers regarding dissertation research and career objectives.

The Doctoral Consortium will be held on June 21, 2022 (Seoul time) and will likely include presentations by PhD students, breakout meetings and mentoring tables and exercises to promote cross-disciplinary communication. Although we will include support for remote attendees, we encourage participants to attend in person if possible (conditioned on covid-19 travel policy). Note that the conference will have a pool of travel scholarship funds.

Applications will be reviewed according to the following criteria: clarity and completeness of submission package and evidence of research progress.

Submissions

Submissions should be submitted as a single PDF, with the following content:

  • A one-page thesis summary describing your progress to date and future plans.
  • A short (maximum 2-page) CV providing your background and relevant experience (research, education, employment, links to any relevant reports or publications).
  • An optional “cover letter” can be included that provides additional context you think we should have.

Formatting and submission instructions

  • Submissions to the DC should be a single PDF file that contains the components described above. You are free to use whatever formatting you prefer, as long as the summary and statement are no smaller than 11pt font with reasonable margins.
