Important dates
"Early Bird" rate available until
December 2nd, 2019
Online registration closes
January 20th, 2020

The ACM FAT* 2020 will be held in Barcelona from Monday, January 27th through Thursday, January 30th, 2020, at the Barceló Sants hotel.

We encourage you to register early. Due to the large number of expected attendees and the capacity of some rooms, we will ask attendees to indicate their preferred tutorials and CRAFT sessions in advance, before the conference starts. In case a room fills up, we will give preference to attendees who registered for the conference earlier (even if payment was completed at a later date).

Registration Items

Recognizing that ACM FAT* 2020 attendees have differing abilities to pay, we have instituted a tiered pricing program to accommodate different financial needs. Tickets will be available while supplies last, at which point a waitlist will be created.

The first batch of tickets are being offered at an "Early Bird" rate and will be available until November 30th December 2nd, 2019. If there are still tickets available after that date, we will provide them at the "Regular Rate" until January 20th, 2019. If there are still tickets available for onsite registration, they will be offered at a higher rate.

The "General Session" registration covers January 28th-30th. If you also intend plan to attend a tutorial on January 27th, you will need to pay an additional fee.

Generosity in Registration

For full transparency, attendees should know that the actual cost per head (excluding the countless hours of free labor donated by committee organizers) is approximately $650-$750 per person. Lunch and coffee breaks, meeting spaces, audio and visual equipment, and livestreaming constitute some of the most significant costs of running this conference. While we are asking industry participants to cover that cost in its entirety, many of our attendees cannot pay that amount. We have received generous support through sponsorship to offset these costs, but we are also hoping that those who can afford more than the base rate will choose to raise the cost of their registration to allow us to offer financial support (including travel grants) to those who have fewer resources to draw from.

During the registration process, you will be given the option to increase your registration amount. We would like to ask that anyone who has the means to consider doing so. This will allow us to be generous in our scholarship efforts.

For those who are concerned about how this will affect your ability to get reimbursed, please note you can request a receipt with a single line item with the total amount paid: go to CEVENT, then click on member or non-member, click on "Already Registered", enter your e-mail address and confirmation number, and then click on "Invoice/Receipt."

Financial Support

Those who lack the means to pay for registration or who cannot afford to travel to attend the conference may apply for financial support, which consists of (1) a registration fee waiver and/or (2) a travel grant of a maximum of €1500.

Press Passes

ACM FAT* does not have tickets reserved exclusively for journalists. Journalists who wish to attend the conference should register as a "non-profit" delegate, and may apply for financial support if they lack the funding to support their attendance.

Hotel and Accommodation

The conference will be hosted at Hotel Barceló Sants, Plaça dels Països Catalans, 08014 Barcelona, Spain. For conference attendees, we have reserved a block of rooms and negotiated with the hotel a special rate of €130/night from Jan. 27th through Jan 31st, 2020. Please book your room now or as soon as possible because the rooms are going to fill up.

Use the code "ACMFAT2020" to be able to book one of these rooms that were reserved for the conference at the special rate. Otherwise the hotel booking page will show you "no availability" for those dates.

If you have questions about hotel or registration, please send an e-mail to registration@fatconference.org.

Childcare

We are in conversations with a vendor who provides on-site childcare. As part of registration, we are asking that those who might use such a service provide additional information so that we can devise a program that best suits the needs of those who could benefit. We will subsidize this service but there may be additional costs depending on what attendees need.

Visa Support Letters

The Association for Computing Machinery does not issue formal invitation letters for visas to attend ACM sponsored conferences. We can, however issue a visa support letter.

ACM is able to provide visa support letters to attendees as well as authors with accepted papers, posters, or members of the conference committee.

For visa support letters, refer all requests to supportletters@acm.org. Please allow up to 10 business days to receive a letter. All requests are handled in the order they are received. The information below should be included with the request:

  • Your name as it appears on your passport
  • Your current postal mailing address
  • The name of the conference you are registering for
  • Your registration confirmation number
  • If you have any papers accepted for the conference, please provide the title and indicate whether you are the “sole author” or a “co-author”
  • Authors may indicate their paper title. If no paper, speakers can provide the title of their presentation

ACM does not provide letters for transport of vendor or presenter equipment. ACM suggests shipping the materials insured to the conference facility.
